Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Placard (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the App on Android or iOS. By using the App, you agree to this policy.

1. We do not require an app account

The App has no mandatory user sign-up or registration. We do not ask for your name, phone number, or home address.

2. Information processed

• Tesla API authentication & tokens. If you connect your Tesla account, authentication takes place directly via official Tesla Fleet OAuth. Access and refresh tokens are stored securely on your device in the system Keychain or EncryptedSharedPreferences. Tokens are used solely to fetch vehicle telemetry (odometer, tire pressure readings, placard targets, active alert codes, battery state) via read-only requests. We do not send vehicle commands and do not wake your car.
• Vehicle telemetry & maintenance history. Vehicle data (VIN, nickname, odometer readings, tire pressures, maintenance logs, custom service items, tire photo logs) is saved locally on your device. We do not upload or sync your private garage log to our servers.
• AI questions & alert lookup. When you submit a maintenance question or request AI breakdown of an alert code, your prompt or alert code is sent to our backend Cloud Functions and AI provider to generate the answer. Data sent to AI is processed transiently to produce the response and is not used to build a personal profile.
• Anonymous alert code contribution. If your vehicle reports an unreviewed alert code not yet in our database, the App may anonymously submit the code name and title to our Cloud Functions so our glossary can be updated. No VIN, location, user identifier, or personal data is attached to code contributions.
• Subscription & purchase data. If you purchase Placard Pro, payment is processed directly by Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We never receive or store your credit card or billing details. Our subscription manager (RevenueCat) receives an anonymous app-generated user ID and store receipt validation data to verify your entitlement across your devices.
• Location & ambient weather. If you grant location permission, your approximate coordinates are used solely to query ambient weather and temperature to correlate cold tire pressure readings. Location coordinates are sent to our weather provider at the lookup time, are never stored on our servers, and are never linked to your identity.
• Diagnostics, crashes, & abuse prevention. Firebase Crashlytics collects anonymous crash traces, device hardware models, and OS versions to help fix bugs. Firebase Analytics collects aggregate, non-identifying usage metrics. Firebase App Check verifies request authenticity to prevent API abuse.
• Advertising data. The free tier displays ads via Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers and usage metrics as described in Google’s policies.

3. EEA, UK, & Switzerland Consent

Where required by law, the App uses the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain your consent prior to serving personalized advertisements or collecting related data. You can manage or revoke ad consent at any time in device settings. AI assistance and alert submissions also require explicit user consent, which can be toggled in the App’s settings.

4. Third-party services

• Tesla API (Official Fleet API). Provides read-only vehicle telemetry.
• Google Firebase & Cloud Functions. Powers app check security, crash reporting, aggregate analytics, and alert glossary lookups.
• Google AdMob & UMP. Manages advertising and user privacy consent choices.
• RevenueCat. Validates subscription receipts and syncs Placard Pro entitlements.
• Open-Meteo & Weather Providers. Provides ambient temperature data for tire pressure analysis.

5. Data retention & deletion

Your garage entries, maintenance logs, and Tesla tokens are stored exclusively on your device and are immediately erased when you disconnect your vehicle, delete entries, or uninstall the App. Subscription receipt validation data is retained by payment stores per store guidelines.
